Market Garden Souvenir Ashtray – Nijmegen 1945.

This ashtray was made by Mr Hugo Mastenbroek who lived in Nijmegen during the liberation. He found the casing when he returned after being evacuated due to the bombing of Nijmegen on February 22, 1945, and made an ashtray from it as a reminder of Operation Market Garden in 1944 and the liberation of Nijmegen in 1945.
The ashtray has always reminded him of the euphoric feeling of being liberated and the black period of the bombing.
